How it works
An injection into the middle ear (Cilcare) intended to repair the ribbon synapses between inner hair cells and the auditory nerve, the exact connections whose loss the Cochlear Synaptopathy hypothesis proposes as a hidden trigger for tinnitus. Cilcare is entering its first human interventional trials for CIL001, three Phase 1b/2a studies whose design drew on the completed DIAMONT observational study, with a further observational study (SAFIER) just kicked off to refine inclusion criteria and target patients likely to have synaptopathy: the RESPONDENT trial in type 2 diabetics, a chronic-tinnitus trial planned in the US, and an MCI trial. The diabetes and tinnitus trials are hoped to start in 2026, with the MCI trial following sequentially. No human efficacy results are published yet, though robust preclinical animal data exist.
