About Me

I'm someone living with chronic tinnitus, a condition that profoundly changed my life. At its worst, it affected my sleep, concentration, work, and overall well-being, leading me to search relentlessly for answers. That's why I created When Silence: a place that connects tinnitus research, potential treatments, and evidence into one experience people can actually understand and trust, without losing scientific rigor along the way. I hope it helps keep a sustainable optimism about the future.

How to Find Treatment for Tinnitus

The ideal approach is multi-disciplinary. Start by looking for an ENT (ear, nose, and throat doctor) who specializes in tinnitus, often called a neuro-otologist. Depending on your case, other specialists may need to join the team, including an audiologist, a physical therapist, a dentist, a psychiatrist, and a psychologist. Each of them must have deep knowledge of tinnitus specifically, so the team can evaluate you together and coordinate care rather than working in isolation.

For non-pulsatile tinnitus, these are among the approaches available: checking vitamin levels, reviewing medications, targeted physical therapy, TENS, neuromodulation, dry needling, a jaw joint (TMJ) evaluation, rTDCS, rTMS, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and sound therapy. Each person should consult their doctor to determine which apply to their case.

Progress could come from combining approaches and adjusting them to what helps you personally, not from finding one universal fix. In some cases, like mine, sadly, it doesn't. Despite this range of options, there is still no single medication or specific treatment that reliably targets tinnitus on its own.

Is There a Medication for Tinnitus?

Not yet. Studies show that available medications don't have an effect greater than placebo. Talk to your doctor before starting or stopping anything. But don't believe in a miracle cure: a medication specific to non-pulsatile tinnitus has not been developed and released to the public.
