How it works

A small molecule (Acousia) that opens Kv7.4 potassium channels in cochlear outer hair cells. This is a peripheral, hearing-protective target distinct from the central Kv7.2/3 channels of the Potassium Channel Dysfunction hypothesis: positive Phase 2a results (2026) are for preventing cisplatin-induced hearing loss, and the mechanism is untested for tinnitus. Included for completeness given the shared Kv7 channel family.
