How it works

A wearable headband from Attune Neurosciences that aims focused, low-intensity ultrasound at deep brain structures from outside the skull, nudging their activity up or down without surgery, while recording brain waves (EEG) on the device. Think of it as a way to reach the same deep targets as implanted deep-brain stimulation with sound waves instead of wires. The company names tinnitus as one of its intended targets, but every registered study so far is for other conditions (OCD, depression, anxiety, epilepsy, memory decline, schizophrenia hallucinations). In October 2026 the company told us privately that early results showed substantial tinnitus reduction in over half of participants; nothing has been published, so how many people, how it was measured and whether there was a placebo (sham) comparison are all unknown. It shares the focused-ultrasound technology base with the Oxford deep-brain ultrasound program and the Chinese University of Hong Kong sleep pilot.

This describes the treatment concept as reported in the cited research: a scientific mechanism, not a guarantee of clinical availability.
