Intratympanic synaptic-regeneration drug

How it works

An intratympanic injection (AudioCure) that promotes regeneration of damaged cochlear ribbon synapses. In a 2025 preclinical study it restored inner-hair-cell ribbon synapses and reversed tinnitus-like behaviour in gerbils, direct animal evidence tying synaptic repair to tinnitus relief, and a therapeutic test of the Cochlear Synaptopathy hypothesis. Its human Phase 2 trial targets sudden sensorineural hearing loss, not tinnitus, so there is no human tinnitus efficacy data yet.

This describes the treatment concept as reported in the cited research: a scientific mechanism, not a guarantee of clinical availability.
