Mechanism
Microglial Activation
What is it?
After noise-induced hearing loss, microglia (the brain's resident immune cells) switch from a resting (ramified) to an activated (amoeboid) state in the auditory cortex. Pharmacologically depleting microglia has been shown to prevent noise-induced tinnitus in mice.
