Limbic Gating Failure

What is it?

A proposed gating circuit (subcallosal area / nucleus accumbens) that normally filters phantom auditory signals out of conscious awareness; chronic, bothersome tinnitus is proposed to reflect a failure of this limbic gate, not just an auditory-pathway abnormality.
